NASA was back watching the back of the Moon November 2022. The pictures were lousy, to say the least. One reason was that humans cannot fly in space! I know you find it surprising and interesting, because you have been told about humans in space a lot since a long time. But you were fooled!
I generally work with safety at sea on the oceans of planet Earth, which can be improved. And then I came across plenty space travel projects in the universe and its safety in space, which I found to be a joke. All of it! Since 1958!
But NASA is not giving up 2023!
The NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program nurtures visionary ideas that could transform future NASA missions with the creation of breakthroughs - radically better or entirely new aerospace concepts - while engaging America's innovators and entrepreneurs as partners in the journey.
Below are some latest NASA crazy aerospace concepts:
1. Fission-ignited fusion systems have been operational - in weapon form - since the 1950's, we are told! Leveraging insights gained from the weapons physics program, a Z-Pinch device could be used to ignite a thermonuclear deuterium trigger. The fusion neutrons will induce fission reaction in a surrounding uranium or thorium liner, releasing sufficient energy to further confine and heat the fusion plasma. The combined energy release from fission and fusion would then be directed using a magnetic nozzle to produce useful thrust. This type of concept could provide the efficiency of open cycle fusion propulsion devices with the relative small size and simplicity of fission systems; and would provide a radical improvement in our ability to explore destinations across the solar system and beyond.
As far as I am concerned moderated fission is only possible inside a nuclear power reactor on Earth and fusion is only possible inside the Sun and cannot be done on Earth at all. Neither fission nor fusion can provide energy and forces to drive space crafts!
2. The pulsed fission fusion propulsion (PuFF) system envisions using a pulsed z-pinch to compress a fission-fusion target. The resulting deflagration expands against a magnetic nozzle to produce thrust and generate recharge energy for the next pulse. A z-Pinch is a device that is commonly used to compress laboratory plasmas to high pressures (~1 Mbar) for very short timescales (~100 ns). An electrical discharge produces a high axial current along the outer surface of a column of plasma; this current in turn generates a very strong toroidal magnetic field. This self-generated magnetic field interacts with the axial current via the Lorentz force and radially compresses the plasma column, bringing it to very high densities and temperatures. This team is exploring a modified Z-pinch geometry as a propulsion system by encasing the fission- fusion target in a sheath of liquid lithium, providing a current return path. Numerical results have been promising, the level of compression is sufficient to reach fission criticality. The fission energy boosts the fusion reaction rate, generating more neutrons which boost the fission process. This concept will potentially reach specific impulses of 30,000 sec with thrust levels sufficient to travel to Mars in a month and to interstellar space in a few decades.

3.The photophoretic levitation and propulsion mechanism creates no-moving-parts flying vehicles that can be used to explore Earth's upper atmosphere. Recently was demonstrated levitation of centimeter-scale plates using the photophoretic force at a variety of air pressures. The photophoretic force arises when a solid is heated relative to the ambient gas through illumination, inducing momentum exchange between the solid and the gas.
The force creates lift in structures that absorb light on the bottom yet stay cool on the top, and we engineered our plate mechanical metamaterials to maximize this lift force and payload. The levitation and payload capabilities of our plates typically peak at ambient pressures in the 0.1-1000 Pa range, ideal for applications in Earth's mesosphere and Mars's low gravity and thin atmosphere. For example, in the Earths mesosphere (i.e., at altitudes from ~50 to ~80 km), the air is too thin for conventional airplanes or balloons but too thick for satellites, such that measurements can be performed for only a few minutes at a time during the short flight of a research rocket. However, the range of ambient pressures in the mesosphere (1-100 Pa) is nearly optimal for our plates payload capabilities. With further optimization, our photophoretically levitated microflyers could stay aloft for extended times by using the Suns natural light during the daytime, or even indefinitely if the microflyer is designed to ascend during the day and descend at night. Microflyers based on photophoretic propulsion would enable new ways to study Earth's mesosphere (e.g. temperature, CO2 concentration, wind speed) using payloads that weigh only grams. The proposed devices can also create horizontal thrust for trajectory control in stratospheric balloons.
Does anyone believe this nonsense? It is like moderated fission that is only possible inside a nuclear power reactor on Earth and fusion that is only possible inside the Sun and cannot be done on Earth at all. Neither fission nor fusion can provide energy and forces to drive space crafts! And levitation in space is just a joke!
4. Accessing Icy World Oceans Using Lattice Confinement Fusion Fast Fission
NASA has a requirement to penetrate the many kilometer thick ice caps of Icy World Oceans in its search for extraterrestrial life. Making use of the recent Lattice Confinement Fusion source, a method for triggering nuclear fusion in the space between the atoms of a metal solid, used to efficiently fast-fission either depleted uranium or thorium in a molten lithium matrix. The resulting hybrid fusion fast fission nuclear reactor will be smaller than a traditional fission reactor where a lower mass power source is needed and provide efficient operation with thermal waste heat from reactor heats probe to melt through ice shelf to sub-ice oceans.
Does anyone believe this nonsense? Extraterrestrial life below the Antartic and Greenland glaciers.
